Welcome to the Atheists of UNSW Society Blog

This blog will be used for online discussions between the members of Atheists of UNSW and others interested in discussing atheism and theism.

The Atheists of UNSW society will be running this year (2007) for the first time. The first meeting will be arranged within the next few weeks.

The aim of the society is to introduce UNSW atheist students to each other as well as to other UNSW students and create an environment where atheists would feel welcomed to discuss their opinions and concerns.

The society will also have educational benefits for it will introduce students to atheist resources, organizations and high profile atheists. It will also introduce students with atheist responce to theistic arguements as well as atheistic arguements directed at theists.

*Update: The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 28 of Feb, the first week of the semester.

**Update: The meeting will be held at the Block House, in the Training Room 2 as apposed to what was advertised on the Blitz magazine.

I really enjoyed the meeting last Wednesday. I have often felt like the only person with a different point of view on major issues so it was great to meet with like-minded people. There are so many issues we can discuss such as the intellectual rationale for atheism with replies to religious arguments, the purpose of life for atheists, and atheist/scientific ethics on various issues. We can also (sensitively) be a voice on campus for a scientific and rational approach to life. I'm sure Roya has lots of good ideas. I can help with some organisational aspects of the group if that would help. My friend had a good idea: she suggested we print a t-shirt saying 'Evolution Ain't A Dirty Word'!
